For the first time in my life a primary actually counts in Illinois. How exciting! Or not. It would be if the candidates were any good. I know, I know, you’re tired of hearing it but none of these guys blow my skirt up. (My intellectual skirt, of course.) The one thing that does wind me up is the thought of Obama losing in November. So I’m going out tomorrow to vote for one of them…I may close my eyes and blindly punch one…I still don’t know. But whoever it is will be a vast improvement over the scary dictator we have now. If a sock puppet was running against him, I’d happily vote for the sock puppet!
I’m under no illusion that whoever it is won’t still be some form of slimy Washington politician who would sell his own mother for a shot at the big desk. How gross is American politics these days? They all disgust me and people like me, which is why decent people will never run for office. Who would want to be that close to the nest of vipers we call “representatives”? A perfect example is Illinois’ Adam Kinzinger who I supported in his run for Congress. He cozied up to the Tea Party and said all the right things and the minute he got to Washington he started voting with the establishment for raising the debt limit and all manner of idiotic ideas. What’s important is quickly recognizing people like him and getting rid of them as soon as possible. Right now his election is in a dead heat with conservative Don Manzulo.
Gone are the days when I could enthusiastically support someone running for office. I’ve been burned one too many times and now I sound like my Dad, which isn’t a bad thing…he’s very smart. It’s too bad that I have to finally admit he was right. There are no good men in Washington and it’s like discovering there’s no Santa all over again.
The thing that bothers me the most is the cult following these people get. It’s stupid when the object of affection is Obama, who some people adore with spiritual fervor, and it’s equally repulsive when it’s Ron Paul who gets the adoration of followers. There has only been one man that should inspire such loyalty and worship and that’s Jesus Christ. The rest of them have at one time or the other engaged in a waitress sandwich or a dirty land scheme. Let’s try to keep our perspective about those we elect to office. They’re imperfect and most of them have narcissistic personality disorders.
This is why our founders created the checks and balances embedded into our system of government; to keep the out-of-control egomaniacs on a leash. What concerns me (and most normal people) is the constant erosion of those safeties by this administration which no one seems to notice but those of us pundit wannabes. Presidential mandates abound like the Obamacare mandate and now the birth control mandate which steps all over the freedom of a religion and forces people of faith to violate their beliefs. (I defy this administration to try that with Muslims.) This was tried before with Americans by a guy named King George. It didn’t go so well for him.
I would like to think we’ve retained some of the spirit that made this country so we can once again throw off the bonds of oppression by an overreaching State. Unfortunately, we’ve gone so far over the edge with the sanction of the people, it’s unlikely we’ll get back to true freedom. The question now is, at what speed will we head toward European socialism? There’s little hope of heading in the other direction entirely. When 49% of Americans don’t pay federal taxes but retain the right to vote to raise others’ taxes, we’re pretty much buggered.
As I type this, Mr. Fox and I are watching the season finale of The Walking Dead and I can’t help but draw comparisons to our current voting public (especially the Chicago voters who actually do vote after death and always for Democrats!) There is simply no end to Obama zombies. They just keep coming and coming and voting and voting and the rest of us keep paying and suffering.
I’m sure someone will accuse me of being too negative or down in the dumps-ish but it is what it is. Perhaps that’s why I prefer to stay off the grid as much as possible, concentrating on my vegetable garden, homeschooling my children and learning how to get back to basics, becoming self-sufficient. It’s going to get worse before it gets better (if it gets better) and it might be helpful to know how to feed yourself without a McDonald’s drive-thru. Just sayin’.

LOL. Why haven’t I run into your blog before? I really need to get out more often.
Cheers!
