My cousin, 1LT Damon Leehan was the seventh soldier from Oklahoma to die in the last three weeks in Afghanistan. When families lose loved ones, many people are asking, “What can I do?” It is so difficult to know what to say or how to react when someone loses such a vibrant and necessary member of the family. But there is something heroic that you can do right now for this precious family that will help more than anything else (along with prayer.) In the interest of being sensitive to my family I will only say the amount given to a grieving widow by the Army is not nearly enough to secure the future of her children and well-being. Many people talk about the sacrifice our military make, but don’t really grasp the sacrifice their families will make for the rest of their lives. I’m asking you today to make your own sacrifice for the sake of these fatherless children who should not need to worry about where they are going to live or how they will survive.
If you go to Starbucks once a week, consider giving it up for one month and send this family the $20 you would have spent on coffee. Imagine what we could raise if 100,000 people just sent $20. Americans are the most generous people in the world and I know that when America pulls together to help hurting people you can do amazing things. When the tsunami destroyed Japan, Americans sent millions. How much more could we do for one of our own? There are so many young men and women who have lost their lives in this war, and so many families who are now without their anchor and source of income. If you don’t donate to the Leehan family, please donate to one of the Seals’ families or the recent lost Marines and urge your friends and families to do the same. There is too much suffering to handle for these families and they should not have to worry about how they will buy groceries.
If you are interested in donating to the family of our lost soldier, The Leehan Family Fund is set up at Bank of Oklahoma. Donations can be made at any branch or can be mailed to Po Box 31812, Edmond, Oklahoma 73003-0031 c/o Robbie Bennett (Audrey Leehan’s brother in law). Please make checks payable to The Leehan Family. PayPal or online donations coming soon. Thanks for the continued support and prayer.
